First Tuesday with Friends - 13th Season

The Onaway Friends continue the "First Tuesday with Friends" program series.  Join them for an exciting series featuring special guests from across Michigan in a variety of interests. This program is free and suitable for all ages.  Programs are held on the 2nd floor of the Onaway Historical Courthouse at 1:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month.

October 2 Bare Bones Eowyn Bates, a Cheboygan native and naturalist, who has studied Osteology, a branch of anatomy dealing with bones, will be here to explain how to understand and interpret bones.  She will be bring her extensive teaching collection of skulls and bones with her in order to help us understand how much information medical and forensic science can learn from them.
December 4 Paddling the Great Lakes Stephen Brede bought a canoe shortly after moving to northern Michigan in 1988.  He joined a group that went paddling one night a week, discovering different lakes and streams. Stephen found that he totally relaxed and enjoyed the experience and in 2009 decided to set off on an adventure. He paddled out into and around Lake Huron, and now, nine years later, he will share his story about how he paddled around all five Great Lakes.

February 5

Hong Kong / African Adventure Bill Friedrich, a northern Michigan native, traveled with his wife, Linda, to Hong Kong and further on to Africa.  His story and picures will encompass many areas of Africa, including safaris.  In addition, Bill will talk about strategies to significantly reduce your travel costs.
March 5 An Afternoon of Music Lori Cleland will perform an afternoon of folk music and conversation.  Lori, whose love of music and teaching, comes naturally.  Her beautiful voice and multi-instrumental skills can often be heard performing with the Ocqueoc River Boys.
April 2 Tahquamenon Falls Theresa Neal with the Department of Natural Resources, an authority on the area, answers the questions we have wondered about and more.  Did you know that the Tahquamenon Falls are the second largest waterfall east of the Mississippi?  Did you know that the color of the water is caused by tannic acid from the cedar and hemlock trees?
May 7 Onaway Omnabots Lewis Robinson and crew from the Onaway Area Schools will be here to tell us about the work they do with robots and possibly demonstrate their skills and talents.

We're excited about this season's program series and hope to see you there!  For more information, please contact Sharon Dulak at 733-2565 or the Onaway Library branch at 733-6621.
